Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Many of us are locked into behaviours, habits and beliefs which reduce the quality of our lives, but for varying reasons we find it hard to break free. This is usually because the unconscious mind is in control of our responses; the thought patterns generated are hidden from our conscious awareness. This leads to the patterns continuing, even if they’re out-of-date and no longer appropriate to our present life.

Cognitive hypnotherapy may help to modify these patterns, enabling you to take control of your own behaviour.

Here at our clinic in London, our hypnotherapists take the time to get to know every individual. After all, we appreciate we all have unique issues. You will also always be in control: it’s not our job to control or dictate the process. 

The majority of our clients come to us seeking help with negative feelings and emotions which are causing them pain in some way. Usually these clients have already tried many other ways to “sort themselves out”, but to no avail.

Our expert hypnotherapists use hypnosis to help people interact with the unconscious mind, possibly solving the problems that the conscious brain cannot alone.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is the study of how our mind interprets the information it receives through our senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, taste), turning it into a ‘language’ that we can understand.

Nobody is born with low self-esteem, or with tendencies to over-eat, or suffering from compulsive behaviours – these are all habits we have learned and practised so often that they become part of ‘who we are’.

For example, someone might be overweight and wants to be slimmer and healthier, but their brain still suggests food when they feel uncomfortable, because eating for many years made them feel better about themselves. It is an ingrained pattern of behaviour.

NLP techniques may be used to assist the individual to adapt whatever it is they are doing into behaviours that could give them the results they want. NLP aims to increase the choices available in any situation, and remove the limitations which currently prevent sound choices being made.

The Potential of NLP

The techniques can be used alone or in conjunction with Cognitive Hypnotherapy to help with many issues, including eradicating phobias and reducing anxiety, anger, trauma, grief and guilt. NLP can also help improve someone’s performance, whether in sports, business or academics.

It may also improve any aspect of your life where communication, (whether internal or external) is a factor. NLP’s potential application is almost unlimited.

How Does it Work?

Experts believe that NLP enables us to become more aware of our thoughts and how we translate those thoughts into actions. Studies have increasingly found that the mind and body are inextricably linked; since they affect each other, the quality of our thoughts has an impact on our bodies’ stress levels. 

Negative thoughts, in placing strain on the immune system, are also believed to create conditions for disease and ill health. Replacing these negative thought patterns with positive ones might assist good health and speedy recovery from illness. Please note- this does not replace traditional medicine but can be complimentary to it.

Doing something well, consistently, is not an accident, it is a process. NLP might help you learn that process and put it into action in your everyday life.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT is a form of “psychological acupressure” – an emotional clearing technique that may help release those ‘stuck’ emotions which are preventing a person from moving forward in their lives.

What Does it Involve?

EFT could help you by tapping on the energy meridians which are also used in acupuncture. The tapping is done using fingers; no needles are used. It is simple and easy to apply and can be done by the therapist on the client, or by the client on themselves, following the therapist’s instructions. EFT may be used alone or alongside both Cognitive Hypnotherapy and / or NLP

EFT is based on the belief that the cause of negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. A thought or memory could trigger this disruption, leading to physical or psychological pain.

How Does it Work?

EFT is believed to balance the disrupted energy and may relieve the client of all sorts of long-standing issues. Once the energy disruption is released, memories might lose their emotional intensity and help reduce negative feelings. 

Some psychologists consider EFT to be an important breakthrough: it often works where nothing else will.

Changing Old Thought Patterns

Our thoughts constantly create patterns of energy, which in turn release hormones, chemicals and neurotransmitters. EFT could interrupt this chain of events, preventing the previously expected emotional reaction.

What is EFT Effective For?

EFT might be successfully applied to an enormous range of issues from small, niggling difficulties through to PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Many people find this process works just as well for their deep-rooted issues as it does for minor irritations, and once all aspects of the problem have been addressed, the results could be permanent.

Problems that have caused intense distress in the past, sometimes for many years, might well disappear. Potential future events which have been causing anxiety might become easier to face.  EFT could therefore be applied to many emotional issues,whether from the past, in the present or in the future.
